Back in 2019, AICA Orthopedics launched its first $1000 scholarships to give back to students pursuing an education and needing financial assistance. We are proud to announce Kathryn Conner as the winner of the AICA Orthopedics’ Scholarship! Find out more about her below.

AICA Orthopedics Scholarship Winner: Kathryn Conner

Kathryn Conner found out about the scholarship when her mother came across the award on Scholarship Owl. She filled out an application, submitted an essay, and captured AICA’s attention with her story.

Kathryn is currently a senior in high school but will be enrolling at Georgia Southern University in the Fall. She plans to major in Biochemistry with a focus on pre-medical studies. She has high hopes for her career and wants to one day become a dermatologist with her own clinic.

In her essay, she grabbed us by sharing a little bit about what being a dermatologist means to her. “Skincare often isn’t prioritized because it isn’t deemed life or death. While this is true most of the time, the epidermis is the largest organ on our bodies and should be treated like any other health issue”, she wrote. Kathryn expressed her desire to create a clinic that is built on a sliding scale so families don’t have to pick and choose what they can afford in relation to healthcare.

Kathryn wants to express her gratitude to AICA Orthopedics and says that her family has struggled financially for most of their life. Her family is incredibly proud of her and honored to be chosen for the scholarship. She said, “I didn’t think college would be an option for me” and now is on her way to pursuing a degree. She wanted to share this quote by Marian Wright Edelman: “Education is improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.” Kathryn concluded that with the knowledge she knows she can change the world for better.

Congratulations Kathryn!
