Showing HEART
Turning a Difficult Moment into Remarkable Care
On August 7, the clinic received a call from a patient who was running late, confused about her visit, and in significant pain. She expressed frustration on the phone and was impatient about receiving medication. Even after reassurance about the appointment, her stress was clear.
When the patient arrived, her discomfort continued. She moved slowly and voiced her frustration throughout the check-in process. This was a moment that could have easily escalated, but Genesis stepped in with calm, patience, and understanding. She greeted the patient for triage and walked with her at her pace, creating the first moment of comfort the patient had felt all day.
Going the Extra Mile for Patients
Connecting Through Empathy and Personal Conversation
During triage, the patient opened up to Genesis and shared that she was usually very active. She even showed pictures of herself in the gym. Genesis listened, connected with her, and supported her emotionally as well as medically.
What began as a tense and difficult interaction transformed into something completely different. Twenty minutes later, the clinic heard laughter coming from the exam room. The patient walked out with her back brace and medication in hand, smiling and expressing gratitude for the care she had received. She thanked Genesis warmly, and Genesis responded with reassurance that made her feel supported and encouraged.
The patient left feeling hopeful and eager to get back to her normal routine. This shift happened because Genesis met her with empathy, professionalism, and a genuine desire to help.
Supporting Her Teammates with Humility
A Calm and Professional Presence
After the patient was discharged, the team asked Genesis how the interaction had changed so dramatically. Genesis simply explained that the patient had opened up and shared part of her story. She did not seek credit or attention. She focused on what mattered most, which was delivering comfort and support to someone who needed it.
Her humble response and calm approach reflect a deep sense of responsibility and compassion for both patients and teammates.
A True Embodiment of HEART
Genesis showed what it means to serve with empathy, connection, humility, and strength. She turned a difficult situation into a positive experience through patience, active listening, and genuine care. As her teammates witnessed firsthand, she brought out a smile in someone who arrived discouraged, hurting, and overwhelmed.
Thank you for choosing AICA. We look forward to celebrating more team members who make a difference every day.
