Spinal Decompression

Atlanta Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal decompression is an incredibly innovative treatment that can help the spine heal from injury in a non-invasive and very effective self-healing way. Back pain is the number one reason that Americans visit chiropractors, and it’s high on the list of why we visit medical doctors as well. Many doctors can offer treatment for back pain, but some may be less effective or more invasive than you would like. A variety of different conditions can be very simply attended to with the use of spinal decompression therapy by a licensed provider. Thankfully, spinal decompression is a great option to improve back pain and help the body heal after an injury or from chronic pain. You don’t have to cope with acute or chronic pain any longer! Contact our doctors and specialists at AICA Orthopedics to see if you are a good candidate for spinal decompression treatment as a means of pain management.

Relief from Spinal Decompression

It is important to begin any pain treatment plan with an accurate diagnosis. We will assess your injuries or pain level using our state-of-the-art imaging equipment that we have access to in the convenience of our offices. You will be able to obtain your diagnosis during your visit and you won’t have to wait weeks for the results of each necessary test. Some of the different types of scans our team of physicians might recommend include x-rays for skeletal fractures and damage, MRI’s for the potential soft tissue injuries you may have sustained, CT scans for a combination of different conditions, and even specialized nerve tests that can indicate the way your muscles and nerves are functioning. If you have been experiencing any of the following, your doctor might order an EMG nerve test. Muscle pain or weakness, twitching, paralysis, numbness are all indicators of muscular disorders. Any of these might cause the sort of pain that would suggest the use of spinal decompression therapy, but it is important for you and for our team that we determine the source of your pain.

How Does Spinal Decompression Work?

Spinal decompression uses a specialized table to release pressure in the spine. Patients will lie down on the decompression table and lift their legs up onto a bar, which helps keep them at a 90° angle. When the table is turned on, it slowly and gently pulls and releases, slowly lengthening the spine. This creates a change in pressure within the spine, not only bringing about pain relief, but also pulling nutrients into the intervertebral discs, sort of like a vacuum effect. The nearby joints and soft tissue also receive these nutrients. Increased blood flow occurs around the spine as well, improving circulation and increasing the amount of oxygen-rich blood in the intervertebral discs. Not only are specific nutrients released during this process, but also oxygen, which is essential to the healing process. This influx of blood and nutrients in the discs helps them to heal and recover from any trauma, pain, or dysfunction, bringing about long-term relief and healing for the patient. Spinal decompression is so slow and gentle that individuals rarely experience pain during it, and more often than not, they experience relief from their discomfort and feel significantly better after a spinal decompression procedure. Ongoing appointments may be necessary to maintain or increase the pain relief results you experience.

What Is Decompression Used to Treat?

Decompression is beneficial for anyone dealing with back or neck pain, but it may not be necessary for everyone. It can help treat bulging or herniated discs, facet syndrome, osteoarthritis, chronic back and neck pain, degenerative disc disease, and failed back surgery syndrome. Additionally, if you have fractured part of your back, spinal decompression may help you heal without surgery. Those who have been in severe car accidents or who have experienced a traumatic event or a bad fall can also benefit a great deal from decompression therapy. Many people who have been told they need back surgery for a number of reasons have found relief with spinal decompression, and they were able to avoid surgery altogether. Spinal decompression is non-invasive, drug-free, and incredibly effective. It harnesses the body’s amazing self-healing power to bring about health, healing, and pain-free wellness to those who undergo this type of treatment.

Yesterday was my last day at AICA College Park since my accident in December, there is so much to say about the people who work here and the level of customer service, care, attention, friendliness, and overall amazing atmosphere that they provide. Location is perfect in College Park, right off the highway and in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The entire staff, from the front desk girls, to the physical therapy girls, to the chiros, and the medical team are AMAZING! I feel like I just lost my friends not being able to visit them twice a week every week. I will definitely miss coming here. All the smiles and warm welcomes received. The physical therapy - asking about my day, if everything is okay and helping my back and neck get better. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Hector as my chiropractor, he is awesome, was very helpful in the healing process and also a native Spanish speaker which is a plus for those of us who do speak Spanish. Before coming to AICA, I tried another injury clinic in ATL and walked out after 5 mins - so impersonal and cold. I am so glad that I found AICA in College Park. Trust me, if you are injured and need some healing and TLC you NEED to come to this clinic! Highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again to the guys and girls at AICA - xo Ms. Colon
