How To Get Through The Night With Lower Back Pain

LinkedInFacebookInstagramXPinterestYoutube

Chronic back pain can prevent you from following through with your daily obligations and participating in your favorite activities. Considering the various types of chronic pain that exist, more people suffer from lower back pain than any other condition. In fact, each person will experience some level of lower back pain at some point in their life.

When it comes to sleeping, back pain can become difficult or impossible depending on the severity. If you suffer from lower back pain, there are various steps you can take to avoid fatigue and exhaustion. Consider the following information provided by our experienced Atlanta Orthopedic Doctors to enjoy a complete night’s rest without pain.

Sleeping With Lower Back Pain

The best way to overcome back pain is to get plenty of sleep. A good night’s sleep helps your body recover from pain, and the alignment of your spine is key to resting without discomfort. You can maintain proper alignment by laying down with your ears, shoulders, and hips in uniform. If your mattress contains dips that separate your body from the bed, add pillows to these areas to relieve pressure.

Sleeping Positions

Sleeping on your side with a pillow positioned between your knees can be helpful. This position helps keep your hips, pelvis, and spine lined correctly. Laying down in the fetal position is also a good idea for avoiding pain throughout the night. Just lie on either side of your body and keep your knees tucked in toward your stomach.

This particular position helps relieve pain because it creates space between your vertebrae. Lastly, you can also achieve a good night’s rest by sleeping on your stomach with a pillow positioned under your abdomen. This position is particularly helpful for those who are used to sleeping on their stomachs. To do this, just place a pad under your abdomen to relieve back pressure.

Tips For Relaxation

You may want to consider performing a few relaxation techniques if you are having trouble sleeping. Try to follow through with the following methods for a half hour before going to bed:

  • A warm bubble bath
  • Yoga
  • Listening to classical music
  • Meditation

When You First Wake Up

When you first wake up in the morning, take your time getting out of bed. It’s important to move slowly and to roll to your side. Bend both knees and drop each leg over the bottom of the bed. Place your feet on the floor and move to the edge of your mattress using your arms to push your body. While all of this occurs, make sure to keep your back in a set position.

Yesterday was my last day at AICA College Park since my accident in December, there is so much to say about the people who work here and the level of customer service, care, attention, friendliness, and overall amazing atmosphere that they provide. Location is perfect in College Park, right off the highway and in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The entire staff, from the front desk girls, to the physical therapy girls, to the chiros, and the medical team are AMAZING! I feel like I just lost my friends not being able to visit them twice a week every week. I will definitely miss coming here. All the smiles and warm welcomes received. The physical therapy - asking about my day, if everything is okay and helping my back and neck get better. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Hector as my chiropractor, he is awesome, was very helpful in the healing process and also a native Spanish speaker which is a plus for those of us who do speak Spanish. Before coming to AICA, I tried another injury clinic in ATL and walked out after 5 mins - so impersonal and cold. I am so glad that I found AICA in College Park. Trust me, if you are injured and need some healing and TLC you NEED to come to this clinic! Highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again to the guys and girls at AICA - xo Ms. Colon
