For many individuals throughout the greater Atlanta community, summer serves as a time for relaxing on the golf course. In fact, it’s estimated that the average player enjoys 15 rounds of golf between June and August.

Common Golf Injuries

Although this golf allows players to exercise outdoors, the increase in activity can lead to unexpected pain and injuries. Despite the lack of high-impact contact, the act of swinging a golf club involves a variety of muscles, joints, and a ligaments that are normally not engaged on an active basis.

The repetitive nature of golf can cause a tremendous amount of stress on the body, creating an environment that’s conducive to strains or tears.

So how can golf enthusiasts participate in their favorite sport without winding up hurt? Consider the following information that can help you avoid the most common golf injuries treated by the Atlanta orthopedic doctors at AICA Orthopedics.

Most of the conditions and injuries associated with golf are caused by repetitive actions such as swinging a golf club or twisting the back and waist.

How To Avoid Common Golf Injuries

Start your golf game out slowly: If you have not played in several months and are just getting back into the swing of things (no pun intended), it’s important to gradually increase the intensity of your game to avoid strain.

Stay in tune with your body: If you start to notice discomfort or pain, listen to your body’s signals and don’t exhaust yourself. What may start out as a minor annoyance can easily develop into a serious injury when you do not give yourself enough rest.

Stay close to an orthopedic doctor: If you start to notice any type of pain in your knees, hips, elbows, or shoulders – contact one of our orthopedic doctors right away. The best way avoid injuries is to work with a medical expert who specializes in sports medicine and addressing conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system.

Our orthopedic doctors can remove stress from your joints and repair damaged muscles using a variety of non-invasive treatment solutions.

Take a golf lesson: Since most golf injuries are the result of poor form and mechanics, consider taking a gold lesson or working with a coach who can help you establish a solid foundation when playing.

Yesterday was my last day at AICA College Park since my accident in December, there is so much to say about the people who work here and the level of customer service, care, attention, friendliness, and overall amazing atmosphere that they provide. Location is perfect in College Park, right off the highway and in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The entire staff, from the front desk girls, to the physical therapy girls, to the chiros, and the medical team are AMAZING! I feel like I just lost my friends not being able to visit them twice a week every week. I will definitely miss coming here. All the smiles and warm welcomes received. The physical therapy - asking about my day, if everything is okay and helping my back and neck get better. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Hector as my chiropractor, he is awesome, was very helpful in the healing process and also a native Spanish speaker which is a plus for those of us who do speak Spanish. Before coming to AICA, I tried another injury clinic in ATL and walked out after 5 mins - so impersonal and cold. I am so glad that I found AICA in College Park. Trust me, if you are injured and need some healing and TLC you NEED to come to this clinic! Highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again to the guys and girls at AICA - xo Ms. Colon
