Causes of Shoulder Pain

LinkedInFacebookInstagramXPinterestYoutube

Your shoulders serve as the most versatile and engaging joints that exist throughout the body. The spherical end of the upper arm connects to a small divot located within the shoulder blade and obtains anterior air from the collarbone. Although these bones are designed to absorb the stress and pressure each shoulder experiences on a daily basis, they are not strong enough to prevent degenerative conditions from developing. Certainly, the flexibility of each shoulder allows for significant action and movement. It also makes each shoulder vulnerable to strain and injury.

Common Shoulder Injuries

Our Atlanta Orthopedic Doctors help hundreds of patients each year overcome various types of shoulder injuries through series of adjustments, therapeutic techniques, and low-impact exercise. If you experience one of the following shoulder injuries, contact our clinic right away to schedule a consultation or a complete examination.

Bursitis

When the bursae disc that exists in the shoulder experiences significant pressure or becomes strained from repetitive movement, they often become irritated, swollen, and painful. Most cases of bursitis are caused by physical activity, specifically, sports such as:

  • Tennis
  • Baseball
  • Powerlifting
  • Swimming

If bursitis is left untreated and continues to persist, it can develop into rotator cuff tendinitis.

Rotator Cuff Tendinitis

This common shoulder condition develops as a result of tendons becoming irritated, swollen, or torn. People who work in occupations that require frequent lifting of heavy objects or repetitive shoulder use tend to experience rotator cuff tendinitis more than others. Symptoms of this condition include sharp, burning pain, stiffness, and weakness.

Dislocation

Sudden blows to either shoulder, such as in the case of a slip and fall or car accident, often lead to a dislocated shoulder. Degeneration and overuse can also weaken the shoulder joint to the point of instability or dislocation. Once someone experiences their first dislocation, the chances of it recurring increases substantially.

Yesterday was my last day at AICA College Park since my accident in December, there is so much to say about the people who work here and the level of customer service, care, attention, friendliness, and overall amazing atmosphere that they provide. Location is perfect in College Park, right off the highway and in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The entire staff, from the front desk girls, to the physical therapy girls, to the chiros, and the medical team are AMAZING! I feel like I just lost my friends not being able to visit them twice a week every week. I will definitely miss coming here. All the smiles and warm welcomes received. The physical therapy - asking about my day, if everything is okay and helping my back and neck get better. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Hector as my chiropractor, he is awesome, was very helpful in the healing process and also a native Spanish speaker which is a plus for those of us who do speak Spanish. Before coming to AICA, I tried another injury clinic in ATL and walked out after 5 mins - so impersonal and cold. I am so glad that I found AICA in College Park. Trust me, if you are injured and need some healing and TLC you NEED to come to this clinic! Highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again to the guys and girls at AICA - xo Ms. Colon
