Common Summer Injuries Treated By Our Atlanta Orthopedic Doctors

LinkedInFacebookInstagramXPinterestYoutube

Summer serves as one of the most popular seasons when it comes to personal injuries. The nice, warm weather makes working out and exercising more attractive, although it also presents unique challenges that can cause harm.

Regardless of whether you are an exercise enthusiast or work out a few times a week, some of the worst injuries our Atlanta Orthopedic Doctors treat are caused by backyard sports or friendly pickup games at Piedmont Park. The reason why so many people injure themselves while exercising or playing outside is that they don’t exert as much caution or concern as they would when participating in an organized event.

Common Summer Injuries

To avoid getting injured and to enjoy the rest of the summer, check out the following information that highlights some of the most common injuries associated with this season, as well as how you can avoid them.

Tendon Injuries, Cramps, Shoulder Pain, Muscle Tears, and Back Pain

There’s nothing wrong with playing hard, even when goofing off with your friends at the park. The important thing to keep in mind is that personal education around injury prevention is critical for avoiding common injuries like tendon strains, shoulder pain, and back pain.

If you do not workout on a consistent basis throughout the year, the chances of sustaining some injury increases as your body is not prepared for the shock and trauma associated with physical activity. During the winter, most people remain indoors and are not active. This causes many people to become active once the weather starts to warm up. While our Atlanta Orthopedic Doctors recommend going outside to exercise once Spring arrives, your body may not be ready for the sudden change.

How To Avoid Common Summer Injuries

If you are considering going for a run or participating in a game with your friends, take some time to warm your body up and stretch. Try to invest 15 to 20 minutes in light jogging, basic calisthenics, and stretching out your quads, hamstrings, and arms before performing any heavy activity. It’s also a good idea to make sure that you are wearing appropriate footwear and that you are playing on flat terrain that’s free of holes or sudden dips.

Yesterday was my last day at AICA College Park since my accident in December, there is so much to say about the people who work here and the level of customer service, care, attention, friendliness, and overall amazing atmosphere that they provide. Location is perfect in College Park, right off the highway and in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The entire staff, from the front desk girls, to the physical therapy girls, to the chiros, and the medical team are AMAZING! I feel like I just lost my friends not being able to visit them twice a week every week. I will definitely miss coming here. All the smiles and warm welcomes received. The physical therapy - asking about my day, if everything is okay and helping my back and neck get better. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Hector as my chiropractor, he is awesome, was very helpful in the healing process and also a native Spanish speaker which is a plus for those of us who do speak Spanish. Before coming to AICA, I tried another injury clinic in ATL and walked out after 5 mins - so impersonal and cold. I am so glad that I found AICA in College Park. Trust me, if you are injured and need some healing and TLC you NEED to come to this clinic! Highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again to the guys and girls at AICA - xo Ms. Colon
