At AICA, we know back and leg pain can disrupt everything. If your symptoms are coming from a herniated disc and haven’t improved with rest, medications, or physical therapy, Disc-FX® may be an option your spine specialist recommends.
What Is Disc-FX®?
Disc-FX® is a minimally invasive procedure for some patients with a contained herniated disc and disc-related pain. Through a small incision, your surgeon uses specialized tools to precisely treat the part of the disc that is causing symptoms. This approach avoids the larger exposure of traditional open surgery.

How Disc-FX® Helps:
Remove problem tissue: Small graspers carefully remove bulging disc material that presses on nerves.
Relieve pressure inside the disc: Controlled decompression and ablation reduce painful pressure within the disc.
Support the disc’s outer wall: The surgeon can seal small tears in the disc’s outer ring to help reduce pain and lower the chance of the disc re-bulging.
This minimally invasive approach reduces tissue damage, shortens procedure time, and accelerates recovery.
Why patients consider Disc-FX®
- Faster recovery, less pain, and earlier return to function
- Less invasive than traditional open procedures
- Smaller incision and reduced scarring
- Lower risk of re-herniation due to minimal annulotomy
