What Conditions Do Hip Surgeons Treat?

Hip surgeons specialize in diagnosing and treating issues that affect the hip joint and surrounding structures. Common conditions treated by our experts include:

  • Hip Arthritis: Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis can cause severe pain and stiffness. Our specialists offer treatments ranging from physical therapy to hip replacement surgery.
  • Hip Fractures: Whether due to an accident or age-related bone loss, hip fractures require expert care to ensure proper healing and restored mobility.
  • Labral Tears: Damage to the hip’s labrum can cause pain, instability, and reduced range of motion.
  • Hip Impingement (FAI): This condition occurs when the bones of the hip joint don’t fit together properly, leading to discomfort and limited movement.
  • Hip Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursae (fluid-filled sacs) around the hip joint can cause pain and swelling.
  • Hip Dysplasia: A structural issue where the hip socket doesn’t fully cover the ball of the hip joint, leading to dislocations and arthritis.
  • Sports-Related Hip Injuries: From muscle strains to ligament damage, our orthopedic surgeons for hips treat sports injuries with advanced techniques to promote full recovery.

How Can Our Hip Replacement Surgeons Help?

When hip pain and mobility issues become severe, our hip replacement surgeons offer advanced treatment options, including:

Minimally Invasive Hip Surgery: Our hip surgeons use advanced techniques that require smaller incisions, resulting in less pain, reduced scarring, and a quicker recovery.

Hip Replacement Surgery: For patients with severe joint damage, hip replacement surgeons perform total hip replacement using state-of-the-art materials and surgical techniques. This procedure can dramatically improve mobility and reduce pain.

Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation: AICA Orthopedics provides customized physical therapy programs to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and restore function after surgery or injury.

Pain Management Solutions: From non-surgical treatments like injections and medications to advanced surgical interventions, we create personalized treatment plans to help you achieve lasting relief.

When Should You See a Hip Surgeon?

If you’re experiencing persistent hip pain that interferes with your daily activities, it may be time to consult a specialist. Consider scheduling an appointment if you notice:

  • Difficulty walking, sitting, or standing for extended periods
  • Hip pain that worsens with movement or activity
  • Stiffness or reduced range of motion
  • Swelling or tenderness in the hip area
  • A previous injury that isn’t healing properly

Non-Surgical Treatment Options for Hip Pain

Not all hip pain requires surgery. Many patients find relief through non-surgical treatments that help reduce pain and improve function. Our specialists at AICA Orthopedics also offer:

  • Physical Therapy – This treatment strengthens the muscles around the hip joint to improve stability and flexibility. A structured exercise program can help restore mobility and reduce pain over time.
  • Joint Injections – Corticosteroid or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections help reduce inflammation and promote healing. While injections provide temporary relief, repeated corticosteroid use may weaken cartilage, and PRP may cause mild swelling or discomfort.
  • Medication Management – Anti-inflammatory drugs or pain relievers help manage pain and discomfort. These medications can be used alone or alongside other treatments to improve mobility.
  • Lifestyle Modifications – Weight management, activity adjustments, and ergonomic changes can help reduce strain on the hip joint. Small daily changes can improve function and delay the need for surgery.
  • Bracing or Assistive Support – Orthopedic devices provide additional stability and help limit excessive movement. Using braces or mobility aids can reduce pain and support daily activities.

For many patients, these treatments help delay or prevent the need for surgery while maintaining an active lifestyle.

Recovery Timeline for Hip Surgery

Recovery from hip surgery varies based on the procedure and individual healing response. Below is a general timeline for what to expect after hip replacement surgery:

Recovery Stage What to Expect
First Few Days Hospital stay (if required) with pain management and early physical therapy.
First Two Weeks Increased mobility with assistance, including walking with a walker or crutches.
Weeks 3-6 Gradual return to daily activities, continued physical therapy, and reduced pain.
Months 3-6 Significant improvement in strength, mobility, and overall function.
One Year Full recovery for most patients, allowing return to normal activities, including low-impact sports.

Advanced Diagnostic Technology for Precise Hip Treatment

At AICA Orthopedics, we utilize advanced imaging tools—X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and EMG testing—to accurately assess hip conditions. These technologies allow us to pinpoint the cause of pain and dysfunction, enabling our specialists to develop precise, evidence-based treatment plans.

X-rays

X-rays are commonly used by hip surgeons to assess the structure of the hip joint, detect fractures, and evaluate joint space narrowing caused by arthritis. This imaging helps determine whether surgical intervention, such as a hip replacement, is necessary. Más información acerca de X-Ray

MRI Scans

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provides detailed images of soft tissues, including muscles, ligaments, and cartilage. Hip surgeons use MRIs to diagnose labral tears, tendon injuries, and early-stage arthritis that may not be visible on X-rays, allowing for more precise treatment planning. Más información acerca de MRI

CT Scans

Computed Tomography (CT) scans offer highly detailed, cross-sectional images of the hip joint. Hip replacement surgeons often request CT scans to assess complex fractures, bone deformities, or preoperative planning for joint replacement procedures, ensuring surgical accuracy and better outcomes. Más información acerca de CT Scan

EMG Testing

Electromyography (EMG) measures the electrical activity of muscles and nerves, helping to diagnose nerve compression, muscular disorders, or sciatica-related pain. Orthopedic surgeons for hips use EMG testing to identify nerve dysfunction affecting hip movement and determine the best course of treatment. Más información acerca de EMG

Yesterday was my last day at AICA College Park since my accident in December, there is so much to say about the people who work here and the level of customer service, care, attention, friendliness, and overall amazing atmosphere that they provide. Location is perfect in College Park, right off the highway and in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The entire staff, from the front desk girls, to the physical therapy girls, to the chiros, and the medical team are AMAZING! I feel like I just lost my friends not being able to visit them twice a week every week. I will definitely miss coming here. All the smiles and warm welcomes received. The physical therapy - asking about my day, if everything is okay and helping my back and neck get better. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Hector as my chiropractor, he is awesome, was very helpful in the healing process and also a native Spanish speaker which is a plus for those of us who do speak Spanish. Before coming to AICA, I tried another injury clinic in ATL and walked out after 5 mins - so impersonal and cold. I am so glad that I found AICA in College Park. Trust me, if you are injured and need some healing and TLC you NEED to come to this clinic! Highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again to the guys and girls at AICA - xo Ms. Colon
