Why You Need An Atlanta Spine Doctor

Spinal pain is incredibly prevalent across America today.  The lower back (lumbar region) and neck area (cervical region) are the most common areas within the spine that cause pain. This is likely due to the fact that these are the most weight-bearing and flexible sections of the back. Patients are able to twist, bend, and move freely in these regions – more so than the center of the spine.

Your spine is a vital part of your body, so it is incredibly important to make sure it is functioning as it should.  You shouldn’t trust just anyone with your spinal health.

Consult a spine specialist at AICA Orthopedics to identify the source of your spinal pain, as well as discuss options for care. Our specialists have nearly twenty years of knowledge and experience helping many find relief from spinal discomfort.

The Nature of Spinal Pain

Your spine is called the “backbone” for a reason. It is responsible for communicating to every single body part, organ, and nerve. It’s made up of 33 vertebrae that must stay properly aligned and fully functioning for the body to function normally. Every vertebra is responsible for sending “messages” out to various parts of the body. That being said, if one of these is slightly off, you could be experiencing noticeable symptoms.

Spinal pain can range from minor to severe, from a simple annoyance to completely debilitating.  It can affect the lower or upper part of the back, or it can radiate across the back, and it can even affect the neck, hips, and other areas of the body.

Spinal specialists at AICA Orthopedics treat a wide range of spinal problems.  We specialize in musculoskeletal issues (composed of bones, ligaments and connective tissue), such as scoliosis, sciatica, osteoporosis, ruptured discs, spinal stenosis, spinal injuries, or even fractured vertebrae.

Should you experience spinal pain from one of these conditions, or if you don’t know the root cause of your back pain, our orthopedic spinal specialists can treat you to get you back to feeling your best once again. To experience the benefits of whole-body health, visit us today to address your spinal health and find a solution for the cause of your back pain.

What Causes Spine Pain?

Injury of the spine could happen to anyone.  Simple movements or more severe trauma can all lead to spine pain. Here are some of the most common causes:

  • Repetitive motions from sports or work
  • Heavy lifting or lifting things improperly
  • Lack of exercise or leading a sedentary lifestyle can weaken muscles in the back, making your spine and back more susceptible to injury over time
  • Medical conditions such as scoliosis affect the spine and overall health
  • Aging can weaken vertebrae. As aging occurs, bulging discs are also more likely to happen.  A bulging disc presses on nerves and can lead to more serious concerns such as a herniated disc, degeneration of discs, or spinal stenosis.

It is important to be on alert for symptoms of spinal pain and seek proper care as soon as you notice something is amiss.  Symptoms to look for, include loss of range of motion or inability to sit up straight, pain when trying to sit, stand, or walk, discomfort when lifting objects, stiffness or tightness in the upper or lower back, numbness, tenderness, or muscle spasms, or a dull or sharp pain in the back.

Whether you need a neurologist, chiropractor, or physical therapist, our team can provide the care you need.

AICA Neurologists

Neurologists can provide trigger point injections to relieve the pain in muscles and reduce inflammation. They can also administer epidural injections, or nerve blocks, to ease nerve pain.  If spine pain is due to nerve dysfunction, neurologists will perform an assessment and create the best treatment plan to correct nerve pain.

AICA Physical Therapists

Our physical therapists provide specialized exercises to strengthen the back muscles, improve range of motion, and improve posture.  Injections are another type of treatment for back pain that can bring about relief.

AICA Chiropractors

Spinal misalignments could also be the source of spinal pain, leading to a pinched nerve or out of place vertebrae.  Chiropractors specialize in spinal alignment.  Correcting misalignments with a gentle adjustment will restore proper alignment or relieve pressure on pinched nerves to treat the source of spinal pain.

AICA Neurosurgeons

More serious cases of spinal pain could require surgery.  At AICA Orthopedics, our surgeons have the experience and knowledge to correct spinal problems and address underlying issues. Find out more about some of the spine procedures we do:

Yesterday was my last day at AICA College Park since my accident in December, there is so much to say about the people who work here and the level of customer service, care, attention, friendliness, and overall amazing atmosphere that they provide. Location is perfect in College Park, right off the highway and in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The entire staff, from the front desk girls, to the physical therapy girls, to the chiros, and the medical team are AMAZING! I feel like I just lost my friends not being able to visit them twice a week every week. I will definitely miss coming here. All the smiles and warm welcomes received. The physical therapy - asking about my day, if everything is okay and helping my back and neck get better. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Hector as my chiropractor, he is awesome, was very helpful in the healing process and also a native Spanish speaker which is a plus for those of us who do speak Spanish. Before coming to AICA, I tried another injury clinic in ATL and walked out after 5 mins - so impersonal and cold. I am so glad that I found AICA in College Park. Trust me, if you are injured and need some healing and TLC you NEED to come to this clinic! Highly recommend to everyone. Thank you again to the guys and girls at AICA - xo Ms. Colon
