Weather’s Effects On Auto Accidents

Abr 1, 2019

Weather in Atlanta can greatly affect the road conditions which can make traveling anything but an easy task. Being cautious should be nothing new for any driver traveling the roads, and a high level of alertness should be heightened as weather intensifies.

The U.S. Department of Transportation say there are more than 5 million crashes reported each year with just over 1 million being related to weather, so remaining alert and aware of your surroundings may help prevent you from becoming one of those statistics.

Car Accident Statistics

Although the greater Atlanta area isn’t often subjected to snowy roads, 70 percent of the nation however is and these snowy regions produce hazardous conditions that result in 1,300 deaths a year with another 117,000 injured according to the Federal Highway Administration. When weather conditions intensify, speeds on highways reduce anywhere from 5 to 40 percent depending on the severity of the snow.

Due to this intense weather, 20 percent of the state Department of Transportation’s budget goes to repairing the roads from weather damage which means even after the storms, the roads may not be in the best condition for traveling so driving with caution is always suggested.

Bad weather is often to blame for auto accidents, but can weather ultimately affect your auto accident claim? Believe it or not the answer is yes, however, that is dependent of a few factors.
